Foundation Philosophy

The broad aim of the ASSG is to improve outcomes for sarcoma and related tumours in the Australian community by undertaking outstanding international basic, translational, clinical and supportive care research.

Specifically, the objectives are to

  • establish international clinical studies partnerships
  • develop an Australian sarcoma related database and biospecimen bank
  • increase patient participation in research
  • promote participation by clinical professionals in research
  • set up and maintain a national sarcoma research capability in Australia
  • facilitate collaborative, multi-site, clinical studies
  • build collaborative links across the Cancer Australia network
  • found a sarcoma research award
  • engage with consumers, education institutions, industry and the broader community.

The strategy that underpins these objectives includes

  • developing a deep commitment within the ASSG to all aspects of sarcoma research, care and education
  • integrating both paediatric and adult sarcoma communities
  • participating in global research collaborations encompassing strengths in basic translational and clinical research
  • investing in the infrastructure that builds basic and clinical research
  • partnering with the wider community through government and philanthropic bodies to focus greater awareness and support for sarcoma research.

Overall, the goal is to

  • provide more effective treatment for patients
  • generate new insights into effective treatment regimes
  • ensure effective collaboration across disciplines.
